|Contextual Notes||The Lewis and Clark Exposition was hosted by the city of Portland from June 1 to October 15, 1905. Covering over 400 acres, the fair showcased exhibits from various nations and states, and it promoted the economic potential of the Pacific Northwest region. |
The exposition's main entrance was located on the corner of 26th and Upshur St. Daily admission for adults and children was 50 cents and 25 cents, respectively. These gates welcomed approximately 2.5 million visitors.
On September 30, 1905, the fair hosted "Portland Day." The exposition's promoters urged businesses to close on that day and encouraged city residents to join in the celebration. The event attracted about 85,000 people.
