| Advertisement Text | Seattle's wonderfully popular exclusive hotel rightly called "The Scenic Hotel of the World"...The scenery from the Washington and grounds on a bright day is unsurpassed in the West - no other point in Seattle giving such a magnificent view as can be had from this hotel. President Roosevelt was charmed with the scene that met the eye, from the verandas and grounds of the hotel, and so expressed himself...The Washington is most complete, comfortable and home-like, and has every convenience, luxury and attractive feature known to modern hotels...Music is rendered each night during dinner hours by a celebrated mandolin orchestra, being a special evening attraction of the hotel. |
| Contextual Notes | Originally named the Denny Hotel, the building opened in 1903 under the ownership of James Moore. It had been constructed in the years following the Great Seattle Fire, but remained closed for 10 years due to disagreements between developers and economic trouble. In 1906, the hotel was demolished before the Denny Regrade.
