| Contextual Notes | In 1884, Edward F. Sweeney built a large brewery in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood. After partnering up with German brewmaster Hans J. Clausen in 1888, the business grew immensely and it had a 1, 000, 000 gallon capacity. In 1893, the brewery merged with the Seattle Brewing and Malting Company (producers of Rainier Beer).
