| Advertisement Text | Truth: Seattle, Wash., Nov. 12th, 1913. A reader of one of our statements took exception to our telling the truth, saying that it is not good policy to advertise that, temperately used, such a product as beer is approved by the best moral precept. With this reader's view we disagree... Does it pay to tell the truth? We know it pays, and we recently quoted the highest moral authority, the Bible, in support of our statement that drinking in moderation a wholesome and health-giving beverage like Rainier Beer is true temperance. |
| Contextual Notes | The Seattle Brewing and Malting Company was founded in 1893. The Company's Rainier Beer became popular on the West Coast, and it has survived Prohibition and several brewery owners.
On November 3, 1914, Washington voters approved a statewide initiative to prohibit the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcoholic beverages by a count of 189, 840 to 171, 208. Prohibition law took effect in Washington state in 1916 - three years before a federal amendment was passed.
