This favorite resort is located in the Blue Mountains in Eastern Oregon, on the banks of the Umatilla River. Hot springs of great medicinal value, flowing 8,000 gallons of water per hour, supply the swimming and tub baths. There is a first-class hotel, amusement hall, with dancing every evening ,except Sunday...Hotel rates: $2.00, $2.50, and $3.00 per day. Good camping grounds...Gibbon P.O. Oregon.
Contextual NotesIn 1864, an inn called "Warm Springs" was built along the Thomas and Ruckel Road near Gibbon, Oregon. In 1892, the stagecoach stop was renamed "Bingham Springs" by its new owner (Dr. John E. Bingham) and expanded into a hotel resort with a 40 by 60-foot pool.
