Contextual NotesPhillip Orin Parmalee and J. Clifford Turpin were both trained as airplane pilots by the Wright Brothers in 1910. Parmalee was the first pilot to transport commercial cargo and he established a world speed record (65 miles in 57 minutes). He was killed during an air show in Yakima, Washington, on June 1, 1912. Turpin survived the crash.
