Advertisement TextThe product of our enormous plant gives strength and vigor to the body, and the greatest moral teachers approve its use in moderation. We have been giving support to any rational, regulative measure for the distribution of liquor to the people....Our opponents, who do not use liquor, say that they will not allow any one to use it, if they can possibly prevent its use...The spirit of our adversaries, as expressed by some of their leaders, is that they are glad to have an opportunity to undertake to destroy these vast manufacturing plants, putting thousands of people out of unemployment and stopping the flow of foreign money to the state for its further enrichment and development.
Contextual NotesThe Seattle Brewing and Malting Company was founded in 1893. The Company's Rainier Beer became popular on the West Coast, and it has survived Prohibition and several brewery owners.
On November 3, 1914, Washington voters approved a statewide initiative to prohibit the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcoholic beverages by a count of 189, 840 to 171, 208. Prohibition law took effect in Washington state in 1916 - three years before a federal amendment was passed.
