| Building Notes | Lionel H. Pries studied under John Galen Howard at the University of California at Berkeley, and received his B. Arch in 1920. He earned his M. Arch a year later at the University of Pennsylvania. After studing abroad for a few years, Pries returned to the West Coast and relocated to Seattle in 1928. His designs reflect an interest in modern materials as well as traditional elements. Pries' own house in Seattle explored the relationships between architecture, the visual arts, machine-made materials and hand-crafted elements. Although Pries was an inventive designer and artist, he was most influential as an educator, teaching at the University of Washington from 1928 to 1958. |
