| Author | Bongkot Suthat Na Ayutthaya |
| Abstract | The article describes the traditional watering ritual (Dam Hua) which was performed by the Northerners living in former periods. Based on the description written by Daniel McGillvary, a missionary who visited Chiang Mai in 1867, the author believes that Dam Hua ceremony was held for different purposes in several occasions. Most importantly, the author argues that originally, the Dam Hua ceremony was the ritual of poring water through the head, but not at the hands of respected persons such as governors, monks, grandparents and parents. |
