| Author | Phanida Sa-nguanseriwanit |
| Abstract | The article features the history and transformation of Yaowarat, or widely known as Bangkok's China Town. Since the reign of King Rama V, Yaowarat has been the city's major business, commercial, and entertainment section. It is dominated by Chinese Thais. Despite its rich culture, the author argue, Yaowarat these days is changing a great deal in terms of demography and ecology. Now Yaowarat is not only home for Chinese Thais but also many migrant labor from the Northeast. Environmentally, the area is now polluted, due to the crowding problems and traffic jams.
