| Abstract | In this article, the author gives an overview of Northeastern Thailand, the region which is widely known as ""Isan"". This includes brief information on Isan's geographical, cultural, anthropological and historical characteristics. Geographically, the Northeastern region is largely mountainous and incorporates several plateaus in its boundary. The Phuphan is one of the major mountains in the region. The Isan culture is unique. Its history could be traced back to thousands of years ago. This area is also homes for people of different races and ethnic groups. |
