PhotographerStaff Photographer
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1927
CaptionConductor, musician, and symphony advocate Karl Krueger was instrumental in organizing a permanent symphony orchestra for the Seattle community in 1926 as well as children's concerts and school lectures. Having studied music in Paris and Vienna, Krueger and his wife Emita considered Vienna their second home to Seattle. While acknowledging that the Vienna Philharmonic was the greatest in the world, Krueger felt that the American cultural and musical scene contained a unique vitality that would flourish in the next generation.

Krueger is seated at a piano, possibly in his home, in 1927 after his first efforts to established the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
