CaptionIn the spring of 1942, persons of Japanese descent living on the West Coast were evacuated by the US Army into assembly centers while permanent internment camps were built. Camp Harmony, hastily constructed at the Washington State fairgrounds in Puyallup, temporarily housed over 7, 000 residents of Seattle, Tacoma and Alaska. Buses transported internees to the facility and eventually to permanent camps in the fall.
This photo shows three women on the road talking to a passenger leaning out of the bus window. Bekins moving vans are visible behind the bus.
