CaptionThe International Fountain is a product of an international competition won by two Tokyo architects. It was originally designed with a basin of irregularly shaped rocks to suggest the terrain of unexplored galaxies. The fountain was completely replaced and expanded in a $6.5 million project in 1995, the sharp-edged rock replaced with a bowl and the iron nozzles with a smooth silver dome.
