CaptionAlki School stands close to where the first settlers landed in 1851 to begin the settlement that would become Seattle. This building opened in 1913 with approximately 175 students in grades 1-8. By 1918, the enrollment had more than doubled. The earthquake of April 1965 severely damaged the three-story structure, which was demolished and replaced by a new building in 1967.
