TitleAdvertisement for Bon Marché skybridge, 1960
PhotographerUnknown
Date1960
CaptionThe Bon Marché was founded in 1890 by German immigrants Edward and Josephine Nordhoff. Originally located in Seattle's Belltown district at First Ave and Cedar Street, it soon moved to a more central location downtown at Second and Pine Streets.
The Bon Marché went through much construction throughout the years. In 1960 a skybridge was built connecting the Bon with a parking garage across the street for the convenience of shoppers. Along with the skybridge opening the Bon also opened the Sky Lounge café, broadcasted a daily radio show with Dick Keplinger, and offered helicopter transportation from the roof of the parking garage. All of these skybridge accompaniments are featured in the fold-out page ad featured in this photograph.
