	Fireworks at Bon Marché Northgate opening, April 21, 1950 Title Fireworks at Bon Marché Northgate opening, April 21, 1950 Photographer Art Forde & Fred Garter Date 1950 Caption The Bon Marché was founded in 1890 by German immigrants Edward and Josephine Nordhoff. Originally located in Seattle's Belltown district at First Ave and Cedar Street, it soon moved to a more central location downtown at Second and Pine Streets. The Bon Marché looking to expand beyond downtown Seattle came up with the Northgate project located just north of the city limits which opened on April 21, 1950. The Bon Marché was an integral part of the first shopping center with ample parking in the nation. This nighttime view depicts a full parking lot with crowds watching fireworks celebrating the opening of the Northgate Bon Marché.
