CaptionIn September 1947, Seattle residents got their first look at the Northern Pacific Railroad's new lightweight restaurant car. The air conditioned diner, which ran on the North Coast Limited, could seat 28 people at tables and 12 at a counter. For its time, the kitchen had the latest in electric equipment, including an ice cube maker and a little machine to clean ice cream dippers.
