Date1961
CaptionIn the early months of 1961, the Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company began work on the 19 pontoons for the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge at a West Seattle dry dock. The pontoons were designed to carry four lanes of Route 520 traffic for a distance of about 1.3 miles across the middle of Lake Washington. Most of the pontoons were 360 feet long, and the company had to enlarge the dry dock to accommodate them.

This May 1961 photo shows the construction of one of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge (Route 520) at the Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company. In 1959, Atkinson built the two-lane pontoons for the Hood Canal Floating Bridge.
