| Caption | Seven months into a 21-month-long construction schedule, the Seattle Central Library rises from the site of the old Carnegie Library at 1000 Fourth Avenue. Second in a string of three libraries to occupy this site, the $4.5 million, 5-floor, 206, 000-square-foot, international style building opened in 1960 and was demolished in 2001 to make way for a new $165.5 million, 11-floor, 362, 987-square-foot, avant-garde building opened in 2004. |
