| Title | Paul C. Horiuchi and his artwork inside his home, Seattle, 1967 |
| Photographer | Staff Photographer Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1967 |
| Caption | Here Horiuchi works in his renowned collage technique. Chikamasa "Paul" Horiuchi was born in 1906 at the base of Japan's Mount Fuji. He started painting landscapes as a young boy. After moving to the United States he continued practicing art while working for the railroad in Wyoming. Not until 1947 did Horiuchi gain recognition as an artist by winning first prize for an oil painting at the Western Washington Fair. His most public piece of work is "The Seattle Mural" commissioned for Seattle's 1962 Century 21 World's Fair. The 17-feet high and 60-feet wide colored-glass mural stands as the backdrop for Seattle Center's Mural Amphitheatre. |
