Date1942
CaptionNeighbors spotted black smoke coming from the H.& F. Mill Company, at 3740 12th Avenue NE, in the University District, and called in an alarm. Unfortunately, it was too late to save the mill (at left in photo) and the adjacent Hincherman Paper Box Manufacturing plant. Volunteers rushed to the aid of Mrs. Winnie Clingenbeard, whose home stood next to the burning mill. They carried and threw most of her furnishings from the house while flames threatened it.

The 3-alarm blaze caused $25, 000 in damages. Mrs. Clingenbeard suffered a broken arm while trying to escape her home.
