	West Seattle School, Seattle, ca. 1905 Title West Seattle School, Seattle, ca. 1905 Photographer Webster & Stevens Date ca. 1905 Caption The small community of West Seattle constructed this impressive castle-like structure in 1893 to serve all of its school-age residents. The first year only a single classroom was used for 20 pupils. By 1902 high school classes began and enrollment continued to grow. This photo shows the West Seattle School as it looked prior to an addition constructed in 1909. The school was renamed Lafayette School in 1918, and served only younger students after West Seattle High School was built in 1917. Notes Handwritten on sleeve: West Seattle School.
