Steelworker on the Space Needle during construction, Seattle, 1961
Steelworker on the Space Needle during construction, Seattle, 1961
TitleSteelworker on the Space Needle during construction, Seattle, 1961
PhotographerStaff Photographer
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1961
CaptionPacific Car & Foundry fabricated and built the Space Needle's steel structure. The steelworkers worked at great heights assembling the sections. Work sometimes had to be suspended when it was too windy.

Here, a steelworker throws a line to a buddy during the installation of the upper levels of the Space Needle. Judging by the progress made on the structure, this photo was probably taken during the summer of 1961.
