| Caption | John O'Brien and John Merrill with the the Powwow royalty: Princess Grace Boscolo, Queen Cara Okoren, and Princess Gail Lincicome. The Rainier District Powwow was first held in 1934 and continued through 1990. It attracted thousands of people to Seward Park for races, beauty contests, and games. State representative John O'Brien was the first chairman of the event and served as chair for many years. John Merrill, insurance business owner, was also actively involved for many years. |
