| Title | Space Needle and Coliseum under construction, Seattle, 1961 |
| Photographer | Staff Photographer Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1961 |
| Caption | Pacific Car & Foundry designed a special centrally-located derrick and hoist to lift the Space Needle's steel beams. This photo shows the Space Needle in its early stages, probably during the summer of 1961. The Armory, being renovated as the fair's Food Circus, and now known as Center House, can be seen behind the base of the Space Needle. To the left, beyond the Armory building, one can see the four large girders which will support the Coliseum (now Key Arena) roof. Queen Anne Hill rises in the distant background. |
