Date1926
CaptionEdward 'Eddie' Rickenbacker, nicknamed the Ace of Aces, was an accomplished WWI pilot with 26 official victories and a recipient of the Medal of Honor. After the war, he bought the Indianapolis Speedway, and later, became president of Eastern Airlines. Rickenbacker was onboard a B-17 bomber in October of 1942 for a secret mission when the plane was shot down, requiring Rickenbacker and companions to survive for 24 days afloat in life rafts. After WWII, Rickenbacker and other members of an association of pilots and WW air veterans provided informal lectures to the new aspiring aviators who had been involved in the Pacific and European fronts.

This 1926 photograph of Rickenbacker was quite possibly taken during the visit to Seattle in which he observed local aviator, Eddie Hubbard, performing an airshow and noted his admiration for him.
