| Caption | Photographer Art 'Happy' French worked at the Seattle P-I from 1923 until his retirement in 1946. Known for his sassy irreverent remarks and attitude, he also possessed a strong entrepreneurial sense. He was one of the first to take photographs of children with Santa Claus and charge a $1 a photo earning $10, 000 in five weeks. French also earned a reputation for trick photography and work on composite images. |
