| Caption | Bing Crosby swinging at golf balls on the green at Broadmoor golf club surrounded by fans, possibly warming up for the big event. Bing was on site to open the P-I Hole-In-One tournament by whacking the first ball. The fifth annual nine-day tournament was sponsored by The Seattle Post-Intelligencer and directed by the King County Public Links Association. For 50 cents each entrant was entitled to three shots from the elevated tee. The grand champion prize of a $100 war bond and a gold medal was offered for a "perfect shot" on the 110-yard course. The women's division champion would receive a $50 war bond and a trophy. In the previous four years of the contest no hole-in-one had been recorded. Money raised by the contest would provide men in the armed forces with rent-free golf clubs when they visit any of the three municipal golf courses, Jefferson Park, Jackson Park and West Seattle, for a round of golf. |
