| Title | Seattle youth eager to pick raspberries, Seattle, August 12, 1943 |
| Photographer | Staff Photographer Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1943 |
| Caption | With farmers' pressing demand for pickers, the United States Employment Service and the Council of Social Agencies supplied youthful pickers for the Victory Youth Farm Aid Corps. Some 400 twelve to sixteen-year-old pickers turned up at 7th Avenue and Madison Street to board a truck headed for Puyallup berry farms. The program called for two adult volunteer supervisors for each twenty children.
In this 1943 photo, swarms of youngsters anxious to help harvest berry crops rush a farmer's truck while Eugene Dils, Seattle Public Schools employment representative, explains there are no adult supervisors to go with them, but the children were sent out anyway. |
