| Caption | On Saturday, June 8, 1940, the members of Seattle's Junior Safety Patrol enjoyed their 12th annual outing at Playland Amusement Park, a North Seattle institution from 1930 to 1961. Some 2, 400 boys and girls from every elementary, middle, and high school in the city visited the Mystery House, rode the Dipper and Dodgem cars and tried their luck at the shooting gallery. Although the park opened at 10:00 in the morning, some excited children arrived as early as 6:00 a.m.
