| Caption | In 1912, the Volunteers of America, a national human-services organization, built the Theodora Home on 35th Avenue NE in Seattle. It was a refuge for homeless women and their children. The home is still in existence in a newer building on its original site. It is called The Theodora and provides housing for the elderly. In this photo, a group of the children look on as Mayor Bertha Landes presents a radio to the home. |
