| Caption | The Puget Sound Naval Academy was located on Bainbridge Island, on 40 acres of land near Rolling Bay at Skiff Point. The school was founded in 1937 by Joseph Hill, founder and owner of Hill Military Academy in Portland, Oregon. Hill had purchased the land and the building-- formerly Moran Junior College-- for $5, 000 in taxes. The Academy prepared boys aged 12 through 18 for either the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis or the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Renamed Hill Naval Academy in 1950, the school closed in June 1951. |
