TitleChildren from Port Angeles viewing Seattle from the top of the Northern Life building, 1937
PhotographerStaff Photographer
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1937
CaptionThe Northern Life building, built in 1928-1929 at the southeast corner of Third Avenue and University Street, was one of Seattle's first Art Deco skyscrapers. At twenty-seven stories, the building was not as tall as the Smith Tower, but was built at a higher elevation, thus making it appear taller in the skyline. The Northern Life building, now the Seattle Tower, was listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1975.
In this photo, school children stand near the top of the Northern Life building overlooking the city of Seattle, with the Smith Tower visible in the background.
