CaptionDuring World War II, a number of black musicians played in a Navy swing band, the Jive Bombers, which was based at Sand Point Naval Air Station. After the war, some of the men stayed in Seattle. They formed a group called The Question Marks which played at various Seattle nightclubs, including The Spinning Wheel on Second Avenue.
This 1949 photo shows the members of The Question Marks onstage. Elmer Gill, who also sang and played the piano, plays the vibraphone (far left). Bob Braxton, who also did vocals, plays his alto saxaphone (second from left). Duke Moore is at the drums (second from right), and guitarist Milt Price sits at the piano (far right).
