| Title | Miners with shovels, ca. 1907 |
| Photographer | Unknown |
| Date | ca. 1907 |
| Caption | In 1907, Washington State produced some three million tons of coal, mainly in King, Kittitas, Pierce and Lewis counties. The demand for coal was pushing production to the maximum, and new mines were expected to open soon. People were mining gold and silver in the Cascade Mountains. In the Cascades and elsewhere in the state, deposits of copper, lead, nickel, tin and other metals looked promising. On this photographic postcard, made in 1907 or 1908, eight miners pose for the photographer at an unidentified location in Washington State. Judging by the state's mining activities at the time the postcard was printed, they are probably coal miners. |
