|Title||Admiral Theatre opening night, Seattle, January 22, 1942 |
|Caption||Every one of the 1, 000 seats were filled for the Gala opening of the Admiral Theatre in West Seattle. The latest addition to the Sterling Theaters was decorated with a nautical motif including masts and rigging outside and usherettes and doormen wearing nautical uniforms. The latest innovations helped dub the Admiral as 'the finest theater on the Coast.' 'Push-back' seats allow moviegoers to let others pass without getting out of the seat. Fluorescent murals showing undersea life and a ceiling with the signs of the zodiac dazzled the crowd.|
The theater is still in operation in 2003, located at 2343 California Avenue, in West Seattle's Admiral District.
