| Title | Sunrise Lodge and cabins, Rainier National Park, 1931 |
| Photographer | Unknown |
| Date | 1931 |
| Caption | On July 15, 1931, the Sunrise area opened in the Yakima Park section of Mount Rainier National Park. While only the kitchen wing of the lodge was ever completed, Sunrise had a resident ranger, campsites, cabins, a store and a cafeteria. Visitors could view Emmons Glacier, from the summit of Mount Rainier to its end in the White River, without going more than 800 feet from the parking lot. This photographic postcard, made in 1931, shows the then-new Sunrise facilities in the northeastern part of Mount Rainier National Park. An artist has enhanced the original image to make the development stand out. |
