TitleReplacing water mains under Third Avenue in Renton, May 20, 1931
PhotographerUnknown
Date1931
CaptionIn 1899, the city of Seattle gained a right-of-way for its Cedar River water mains to run under Third Avenue in nearby Renton. Renton was connected into the Seattle Water Department system in 1905. In 1931, workers replaced the 42-inch diameter wood stave pipe under Third Avenue with 66-inch steel pipe.
This May 1931 photo of Third Avenue in Renton shows the new 66-inch steel water main which replaced the old wood stave pipeline. After laying the line, workers filled up the trench and replaced the paving brick.
