|Title||Big Tree Inn, ca. 1930 |
|Date||ca. 1930 |
|Caption||In 1915, Humboldt County, California, sent an exhibit to San Francisco's Pan-Pacific Exposition housed in sections of a giant redwood log. After the fair was over, the buildings were moved to Venice, California and became the Big Tree Inn. In 1921, the inn was moved from California to a site near Des Moines, Washington where it served as a restaurant. The buildings were moved two miles to Highway 99 in 1938.|
This photographic postcard, probably made sometime around 1930, shows the Big Tree Inn buildings. The restaurant's lobby is in the part with the conical roof, and the dining room is inside the horizontal log. Signs advertise chicken dinners for $1.00 or $1.50 and chicken on toast for 50 cents. For other views of the inn, search under "Big Tree Inn."
