| Caption | In 1905, the first automobile drove through Snoqualmie Pass on the old wagon road. Even after the Sunset Highway was completed in 1915, driving through the pass was extremely difficult. Many motorists who needed to cross Washington state chose to ship their cars through the Cascade Mountains by train.
