Bide-a-Wee on Sunset Highway, Wash., ca. 1910
TitleBide-a-Wee on Sunset Highway, Wash., ca. 1910
PhotographerJuleen, J.A. (John Albert)
Dateca. 1910
CaptionBide-a-Wee, built shortly before 1900, was one of the earliest facilities for travelers through Snoqualmie Pass. At first it catered mainly to immigrants entering the area by wagon and people driving cattle across the mountains from Kittitas County. Once the railroad was built through the pass in 1909, Bide-a-Wee became more of a tourist stop.
This photographic postcard, probably made around 1910, shows Bide-a-Wee, just west of Snoqualmie Pass. A new owner, M.C. Mason, improved the cabins, added a grocery store and eating area and renamed the place Camp Mason.
NotesOriginal photographic print (postcard): ca.1910. Copied in 1998 by the Museum of History and Industry.
