| Caption | In the 1920s, large downtown theaters were the popular place to go for great entertainment. The Seattle Theatre, now known as the Paramount, opened in 1928 on Pine Street at Ninth Avenue. Like several other local theaters, the building also housed apartments and commercial space. When it opened, the Paramount seated over 3, 000 people and featured silent movies, stage acts, and organ and orchestral music. This photo shows the Paramount in 1947. The theater was renovated in the 1990s for traveling Broadway shows, concerts, lectures, and other events. |
