TitleFirst building at Virginia Mason Hospital, ca. 1920
PhotographerWebster & Stevens
Dateca. 1920
CaptionIn 1920, a group of Seattle doctors scrubbed the floors, painted the walls, and put other finishing touches on the new Mason Clinic and Virginia Mason Hospital. It was the first on the West Coast to have advanced x-ray and laboratory facilities. It also had offices for a team of medical specialists. This kind of hospital is common today, but it was a new idea in the early 1900s.
This photo shows Virginia Mason Hospital's first building on the corner of Terry and Spring Streets in Seattle. The building is now part of a much larger hospital complex.
