The Monorail in downtown Seattle, 1962
TitleThe Monorail in downtown Seattle, 1962
PhotographerMorley Studios
Date1962
CaptionThe Monorail was built to carry passengers between the Seattle World's Fair grounds and downtown Seattle; it still runs today as the Seattle Center Monorail. At the time it was described as "a preview of the mass transit system of the future." The 1.2 mile trip takes about 95 seconds aboard one of the high speed trains which can take up to 450 passengers per trip. The trains are powered by G.E. electric motors and ride on rubber tires on a two story concrete "monorail" track.
