| Title | Jack Benny with talent tryout girls inside Metropolitan Theatre, Seattle, 1954 |
| Photographer | Staff Photographer Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1954 |
| Caption | Jack Benny, one of the most popular comedians of all time poses with aspiring performers. His visit to Seattle's Metropolitan Theatre for talent tryouts occurred just months before the 1911-vintage theatre closed its doors. Like these girls, Benny began his entertainment career at a young age. While still in his teens he performed in vaudeville as a violinist. He made his radio debut in 1929 and had his own successful network show from 1932-1955. With the advent of television, Benny made the leap to this new medium with a TV special in 1950 that eventually turned into a series that ran from 1953-1965. |
