CaptionThe Asian elephant Cleopatra was purchased in 1920 by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper for a fundraising event. Renamed Wide Awake after a P-I children's group, "the Wide Awake Club, " she was presented to the Woodland Park Zoo in June of 1921.
