CaptionTed Geary, a champion sailboat racer and a member of the Seattle Yacht Club, also designed sailboats. One of his most popular designs was the Geary 18, nicknamed the Flattie for its flat bottom. The 18-foot long Flatties were quite easy to build and fun to race. Many young people in Seattle and elsewhere in the United States first learned to sail in the Geary 18. This photo shows the start of the International Flattie Races on Lake Washington.
