PhotographerDavis, Harvey
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1948
CaptionA February 1948 storm drove floating logs into a wooden bulkhead on Sound View Drive, a mile south of Seattle's West Point Light. The seawall gave way, and waves washed out the foundations of a nearby home. The house soon dropped six or seven feet onto the beach below. The homeowner called on the city to build a concrete seawall. "There are a lot of voters living along this beach, " he remarked.

This photo, taken on February 6, 1948, shows the home on Sound View Drive which slid onto the beach after the seawall gave way. There were two people in the house at the time, but no one was injured.
