| Caption | On May 19, 1962, Evalyn Van Vliet became the 1, 000, 000th visitor to visit the Seattle World's Fair. "This is wonderful, " she said. "I'm all shook up."
Here, Mrs. Van Vliet rejoices near the north entrance to the fair as Seattle Times reporter Stanton Patty takes notes. Fair officials rolled out a blue carpet in her honor, and the Space Needle carillon played "I found a Million Dollar Baby." Mrs. Van Vliet's prizes included a tv set, free fair entry for a week for her family, a family lunch at the top of the Space Needle, and a cruise to Victoria. |
